The government has approved the ambitious Metro Line 8 project, a key infrastructure corridor designed to connect Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport with the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The metro line will feature 20 stations, significantly strengthening regional connectivity and easing travel between the two airports.
According to officials, the project aims to provide a fast, reliable and direct public transport option for air passengers, airport staff and daily commuters. Once operational, the corridor is expected to reduce road congestion and cut travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.
Metro Line 8 is part of the larger Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) metro expansion plan and is seen as a crucial link supporting the development of Navi Mumbai as an emerging aviation and business hub. Authorities stated that preparatory work and detailed planning are underway, with construction timelines to be finalised soon.
Experts believe the dual-airport connectivity will boost logistics efficiency, real estate growth and commercial activity along the route, making the project strategically important for the region’s long-term economic development.
