Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Wednesday released the book “Tides of Time” authored by Rajya Sabha MP Sudha Murty at an event held in New Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, the Vice President highlighted the cultural and historical significance of the 58 murals in the Samvidhan Sadan, stating that they are not merely works of art but powerful visual representations of India’s long civilisational journey.

He noted that “Tides of Time” beautifully captures the timeless essence and profound symbolism of these parliamentary murals, reflecting the nation’s rich heritage and democratic ethos.

Mr. Radhakrishnan also addressed the perception that democracy is a modern system originating from the West, asserting that India’s ancient texts clearly demonstrate that democratic principles have deep roots in the country’s own traditions.

Emphasising the importance of democratic values, he described Parliament as the living embodiment of key democratic principles—dialogue, debate, dissent, and discussion—which together sustain a vibrant democracy.

Also present at the event, Om Birla underlined that India’s rich heritage and glorious past continue to inspire future generations. He stated that Parliament is not just a forum for legislative discussions but also a source of inspiration and guidance for the nation’s progress.

Mr. Birla added that India is steadily advancing on the path of development, moving towards the vision of building a “New India.”

The event underscored the deep connection between India’s cultural legacy and its democratic institutions, as reflected in both the murals and the newly released book.
